Monday, Monday, Monday. What can I say about it? I feel like it means well with its fresh start to the week and whatnot (who starts a diet on a Thursday? Nobody). But it’s just terrible. People get cases of it. That’s not a good thing. You don’t get a case of the sunshines or a case of the puppies. Monday’s only fan is Tuesday, and that’s just because Monday makes it look really good. You know how in your early twenties, you drank too much and dated the wrong people and just bought new underwear instead of doing laundry, and you were a total mess, but there was always that one friend who took it a step further into complete trainwreck territory so your life ended up looking not so bad by comparison? That’s what Monday is to Tuesday.
All we can do is hope for Monday to go as smoothly as possible before its merciful end. To that end, a good breakfast helps.
I am a basil fiend. When I have extra leaves I just eat them whole. Yum? I don’t know. And I REALLY love basil and strawberry together. The sweetness of strawberries with the peppery bite of basil is an unexpected but really refreshing match. This quick smoothie is perfect for after a workout, for an afternoon snack, or just to give your Monday a smoother start. Let’s start making Tuesday put in some actual effort for a change.
- 1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- ¼ cup packed basil leaves
- 1 Tbsp agave nectar
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- Combine all ingredients in a blender. Whiz until completely incorporated, 45-60 seconds.
